VinAI Research is a leading research lab with offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Funded by Vin Group, the largest enterprise in Vietnam by capitalization, our mission is to conduct high-impact research that pushes the knowledge frontier in AI and to accelerate applications of AI in Vietnam, the Asia Pacific region, and beyond.

Headed by its founding director, Dr. Hung H. Bui (formerly of Google DeepMind), this is the first AI research lab in Vietnam created with a focus on top-tier research and publications. The lab enjoys a world-class research facility, including ample access to computing infrastructure and GPUs. In addition, it maintains active research collaboration with other top AI research labs around the world. The current research areas include machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language technologies and reinforcement learning.

Who is VinAI looking for? 

You are a brilliant, motivated self-starter and an extremely fast learner with top notch problem solving, and analytical skills. You have a deep sense of curiosity and innate desire to dig deep into terabytes of data and love to play with the innards of complex algorithms, mathematical constructs and code. You will help us pushing the AI frontier, discover deep insights in trillions of data records, images, texts, languages and create disruptive AI products. Our current emphasis is on autonomous driving. We are looking for data science skills in all aspects of autonomous driving, from calibration, perception, localization to planning, control, signaling and systems.

What you’ll do

  • Apply your skills to analyze, probe, build, and apply ETL process to data.
  • Design and implement existing state-of-the-art machine learning, and data science algorithms for the problems assigned.
  • Analyze and improve existing data sources and metrics
  • Develop novel approaches to measuring and improving
  • Evaluate self-driving performance (either generally, or for motion planning specifically)
  • Collaborate with engineers and other data scientists to evaluate and improve the core components of autonomous systems
  • Focus on bringing statistical depth, general analytical rigor, and accurate causal interpretation of data.
  • Keep up-to-date with latest research results in specific areas of ML, data science and autonomous driving and deploy them when needed. This might also include performing ad-hoc analysis, hypothesis testing and presenting results in a clear manner.

Participate in training and upskills programs when needed

What you’ll need

  • A PhD in machine learning, statistics, math, data science or other closely related areas
  • A strong machine learning/statistics background with hands-on experience in academia and/or industry
  • Exceptional data science, system evaluation experience with great data intuition
  • Willingness to understand a complex system and its various components
  • Experience with tools for manipulating big data
  • Great scripting and programming skills (fluent in Python/R)
  • Experience with open-source machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn, weka, distributed/parallel big data processing architecture (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, MLlib) and deep learning framework (e.g., TensorFlow, Pytorch)
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to understand, explain and reproduce results from research papers from top-notch conference in machine learning fields such as NeurIPS, ICML, AISTATS, UAI, ICLR, KDD, CVPR.
