Research Scientist positions at VinAI Research

VinAI Research is a research-focused lab located in Hanoi, Vietnam. Funded by Vingroup, the largest enterprise in Vietnam by capitalization, our mission is to conduct high-impact researches that push the knowledge frontier in AI and to accelerate applications of AI in Vietnam, the Asia Pacific region, and beyond.

Research Scientist’s Responsibilities

VinAI Research is looking for researchers who can do world-class research in one or more of the following research areas: machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language and speech understanding. Please find the requirement for each area as belows:

1. Machine Learning/Deep learning

  • Conduct cutting edge research in machine learning and deep learning related to (but not limited to): representation learning, deep generative models, optimal transport, domain generalization, unsupervised learning, self-supervised learning, weakly-supervised learning, reinforcement learning;
  • Publish scientific papers in top-tier conferences on ML (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AISTATS, etc.);
  • Collaborate with other lab members and visitors to develop solutions for real world, large scale problems.

2. Computer Vision

  • Publishing high-class work at the top-tier Computer Vision conferences,
  • Encouraging a research culture, and
  • Improving research efficiency and streamlining research to production.

3. Natural Language Processing

  • To conduct cutting-edge language technologies which help automatically construct high-quality and large-scale knowledge bases (KBs) from a vast amount of unstructured data, including Text classification & summarization, Syntax and semantic parsing, Relation & event extraction and KB completion; and to develop technologies which utilize the KBs to build and enhance question answering and dialog systems as well as personalized & recommender systems, and to better understand the meaning of language with perceptual signals (i.e. language grounding to vision).
  • To integrate those NLP technologies into the company’s existing products (or explore novel innovations) and apply them to facilitate future research and applications in Vietnamese.
  • To publish research outputs at the top-tier NLP venues such as TACL, ACL, EMNLP, NAACL and the like.

4. Speech Voice

  • Build core technologies and carry out cutting-edge research in multilingual speech recognition/synthesis, e.g acoustic and language models optimization under low resource conditions.
  • Explore the next generation of speech understanding technology, and publish academic papers at the top-tier conferences such as ICASSP, Interspeech  or mainstream journals.
  • Implement and deploy speech/audio technologies into company’s products for smart devices, vehicles, smart homes.


  • Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in computer science or related fields, and a proven research track record with authorship of papers at top-tier conferences. Senior-level applicants should demonstrate leadership as evidenced by high quality publications, and a track record for innovations. Candidates should collaborate effectively with other staff members and product development teams. We are particularly interested in candidates who can work flexibly across disciplinary boundaries.
